Forum November 2020: Dance – New Moves in Healthcare

We are planning to hold this year’s forum “Dance – New Moves in Healthcare” in Vienna on
November 20th. The event of the Dance & Creative Wellness Foundation takes place in
collaboration with the Creative Europe Desk of the Austrian Ministry of Culture and the
Museumsquartier Wien (MQ), Vienna’s largest cultural centre for the contemporary arts.
As present time, the freedom to travel in November cannot be assessed with certainty. The
forum at the MQ will, therefore, take place live as well as virtually via the online platform
Zoom.
A particular focus of the event will be the virtual level of dance offers for special target
groups. During the Corona crisis, a number of dancers moved their offers to the Internet and
developed special formats and techniques in doing so. Even as we move out of the lockdown
there is a consensus that the online provisions will continue complementary to the live
activities.
The forum will be designed to support dance artists in Austria working in the context of
health and wellbeing. This is quite a new field in Austria. The discussion officially started with
a publication and a workshop at the Ministry of Culture in December of last year. At a time
when groups started to take momentum, the Corona crisis hit and the activities came to a
standstill. Only very few groups were stable enough to continue online.
Therefore, experts and practitioners from the fields of dance, neuroscience, health
economics, dance sociology and insurance will present a more general picture of dance in
the health context as well as new research findings. They will then put them up for
discussion among the delegates.
Topics will be (to be confirmed):
 neuroscientific dance research
 the spectrum of dance for health to dance and movement therapy
 virtual teaching
 benchmarking dance for health activities
 a European perspective on dance for health
On November 21 st , there will be a CPD day for dance artists interested in the field of dance
for health and wellbeing, with the option of attending in person or via a virtual platform. We
are currently negotiating a collaboration with the Vienna State Ballet.
