Co-director and Founder:  Clare Guss-West, BHum MA

Former professional dancer, choreographer, teacher, holistic health practitioner, author and business developer specializing in the integrating of holistic health principles to dance practice. Co-founder of the European Dance & Creative Wellness’ Foundation, Clare is leading an international benchmarking initiative for the sector. In her Foundation role and as IADMS Dance for Health task force Chair, Clare lobbies for the validation of dance and its potential role in innovative preventative health and wellness solutions.

Health for dance: Clare’s innovative work in professional dance integrates holistic health principals to the training of classical ballet. Her method ‘holistic ballet’® translates the ‘inner’ attention & energy work of the martial arts, supported by the latest Attentional Focus research findings to empower dancers, optimizing energy and effort for enhanced performance and a sustainable technique. She delivers this work for The Royal Ballet, Houston Ballet, Finnish National Ballet, Ballet de L’Opèra du Rhin and Opèra de Paris-Opèra Université.

Health through dance: Clare directs creative senior dance and research projects for Konzert Theater Bern, Switzerland in partnership with Bern University. This Bern ‘Senior Tanz’ initiative won the 2019 Prosenectute Silberbär prize for innovation in senior quality of life. Clare’s teaching methodology dancing longevity’® focuses on dance practice for senior wellness and is recognized as a DU (University Diploma) of the University Côte d’Azur, France integrating for the first time certified dance teachers together with sports PTs, physiotherapists and therapists. She lectures on Adult and Senior Dance practice for the MAS Dance Science program, Bern University and her method is certified Continuing Education of l’Ecole Superieure de Danse, Cannes et Marseille and certified international CPD for The Royal Academy of Dance.
